A shiny start to the New Year thanks to ASDA workers

On the 26th November 2014 a team of new volunteers arrived at Inkwell with one purpose and task in mind…

Our ground floor classroom was in desperate need of some TLC and a lick of paint. The room is the main teaching space for our Adult Social Care funded students, the Craft Cafe and other external classes run by organisations such as East Street Arts providing a safe space to learn painting, creative writing, drawing, canvas making and air dry pottery.

Asda workers who signed up to be a part of the Employer Supported Volunteering scheme (coordinated by Business Doing Good in Leeds) arrived equipped with paint trays, overalls, rollers, putty and litres of white paint to help transform our art space ready for the New year. Our Inkwell volunteers helped in the best way that they could and offered freshly brewed cups of tea and homemade sandwiches to keep the workers happy.

The room looks better than ever! Our Students now enjoy the clean and crisp white walls where we can now hang and display the beautiful works of art created with pride.

We’d like to say a massive thank you to all the ASDA volunteers for their hard work and to Joanne Terry and Sonja Woodcock for organising the decorative transformation of Inkwell. The place has never looked so good.
We would like to give an extra special thanks to Ben and Paul who sanded and varnished the entire floor in our main space over the Holiday period. They worked flat out throughout the holiday to ensure the job was completed in time for our service re opening in January.

The gallery space is the central hub and main communal space within Inkwell, with classes, exhibitions, salsa, life drawing, the cafe, cinema screenings, creative chatter, meetings and training days all happening here.

It was a huge and wonderful surprise to arrive back from the holidays to a shiny brand new floor, which looks better now than when we first put it down.

The commitment, hard work and determination of the volunteers will not be forgotten by Inkwell.

Thank you so much! We’re prouder than ever of our beautifully redecorated space.
