Inkwell Arts

Art and Mental Health

Our work as a project is based on developing creative skills whatever an individuals background or ability, as an integral part of the journey towards recovery from mental health issues.

We encourage personal expression working with adults 16-65+. Creativity can play a significant role in helping people recover and maintain a robust mental health. We all benefit from a healthy well being and we believe creative activity provides a powerful tool in helping us do this.

Brief History

Inkwell (formally known as Community Arts) was formed during 2009 with its own dedicated premises opening in September of that year .It’s services range from fine arts to ceramics to multimedia with an ever expanding range of additional courses (See our What’s On page for more information on this)

A major refurbishment of the premises, formally the Shoulder of Mutton pub on Potternewton Lane, Leeds 7 now provides a friendly, safe and open environment where creativity can thrive and supports positive mental health. The Shoulder of Mutton Pub is situated in between the multicultural areas of Chapeltown and Chapel Allerton and was traditionally a hub for the local community, which Inkwell continues to maintain with the development of further services such as the weekend cafe, community events and social evenings.
