Saturday 3rd November was the day the vikings came to Inkwell.
Our Bonfire event was a great success thanks to all the amazing folk who helped us make it happen and to everyone who came along, supported it and watched the show. The money we raise at these events helps us continue to run our services which are vital for so many people in Leeds. Every cup of tea bought, every ticket sold, helps us provide a safe, accessible and creative space for the community and our participants. With over 300 tickets sold it was another sell out year and we thank everyone from the community and beyond who came along.
A huge thanks also needs to go to TCV who helped us prepare and tidy the garden, move pallets, wood, branches and build the bonfire, and who turned what would have been days of work into something that was achievable in a few hours.
We were so lucky with the weather again, the evening was chilly but most importantly calm and dry. We would like to thank all our volunteers who worked so hard putting this event together and those who helped on the night. A special thanks needs to go to our bonfire and pyrotechnic crew who, as always, put on a spectacular show.
Inkwell was transformed into a magical illuminated space with the help of the gorgeous willow lanterns made at last weeks workshops and the vibrant neon glow from glo sticks, swirling and dancing added more colour to the evening as the children enjoyed a safe alternative to sparklers. The garden was lit with candles and lanterns and the place looked ethereal.

Fairy lights, glo sticks and a viking ship in the garden - Inkwell Bonfire Night 2012
The bonfire this year had a Nordic feel, with the master of ceremonies dressed in Viking attire complete with shield, helmet and sword. The viking longboat was constructed solely out of salvaged wood from wooden pallets and the ship was finished with shields and an impressive 20ft sail. A huge well done and thanks to the Stuart for his imaginative and well constructed design and all the volunteers who helped to get the build finished.

The extravaganza ended with a stunning firework display after which the evening gently wound down and people enjoyed some hot drinks or a glass of Real Ale provided by the wonderful Ridgeside Brewery.

After a hard days work the volunteers reflect on what was another successful event and keep warm by the fire. Well done and thank you to absolutely everyone involved.
So….what shall we build next year?
