Layer Exhibition Tetley gallery
15th - 27th October
Layer exhibition at the Tetley Gallery
‘Layer’ (noun) An abstract place usually conceived as having depth
The Tetley is a new centre for contemporary art and learning in a landmark heritage building.
As part of the Love Arts festival this year we are really proud that Inkwell Artists have been selected to exhibit in the new Tetley Gallery in Leeds. The gallery opened just under a year ago and is housed in the old Tetley brewery which has undergone a £1.5 million refurbishment.
Centred around creativity, innovation and experimentation, The Tetley is a place that develops future artistic talent and opens the minds of young people, whilst at the same time engages families and individuals of all ages.
The Tetley is operated and curated by Project Space Leeds (PSL), a contemporary arts and education charity founded in 2006. PSL was established to create a platform for emerging artists across the UK and further afield, allowing them to make and show work on an expansive scale, pushing their practice within a supportive environment.
The exhibition opens on Wednesday 15th October at 6pm and features work from Inkwell Artists:
Beth Smith
Steve Willingham
Natalia Sauvignon
Amanda Burton
Sandy Holden
Sarah Deakin
Stuart Harrison
A showcase of work in a range of media including drawing, ceramics, sculpture and painting selected from artists associated with Inkwell Arts, exploring links in concept or media. The exhibition is co-curated by Aidan Moesby, artist in residence at The Tetley during 2014, and is part of the Love Arts Leeds Festival.
The work exhibited in Layer has been created by studio artists, self-directed artists and students all based at Inkwell Arts.
The artists delve into a vast range of concepts and notions through the production of their art. Some share the desire to understand and question their world and reality by looking at such subjects as the cellular particles that exist within all living forms, and the interconnecting mechanisms of nature from birth through to death. Others create work that is a personal exploration of identity and loss, personal family history, or consciousness and disassociation.
