Shadow puppet workshop for children

Discovering the wonders of light, lighting effects and shadows had to be on our list of workshops for the Genera Project. Shadow puppetry is believed to have originated from China over two thousand years ago during the Han Dynasty. Since then it has become popular in various cultures; currently there are more than 20 countries known to have shadow show troupes. Shadow plays are an old tradition and it has a long history in Southeast Asia; especially in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia with adults and children both enjoying the magical performances.

The children’s Shadow Puppet workshop will inspire your child make and create their very own puppet which will then be used to star and perform in a shadow puppet play. The play will be filmed and edited to create a full performance which will be screened at our Saturday Cafe on the 19th September.
