Street Studio - an exhibition of work by photographer Johnathan Turner
Street Studio – An exhibition of work by photographer Jonathan Turner.
Supported by Leeds Inspired, East Street Arts and Inkwell Arts.
You are warmly invited to a celebration event, to mark the opening of ‘Street Studio’; an exhibition of photographic portraits in Chapeltown. Come and have a drink, enjoy live music and sounds from Chapeltown, and free curry courtesy of Leeds Islamic Centre. We look forward to seeing you there.
Over the past year, Jonathan has been photographing individuals, families and community groups in Chapeltown, with the aim of celebrating diversity through portraits of local residents.
Taking inspiration from roving street based ‘itinerant photographers’ of the late 19th and early 20th century, Jonathan has set up his ‘street studios’ at various locations in the community, and produced free portraits for all participants. A publication accompanying the exhibition is free to anyone who took part.
Jonathan is a lens-based artist living in Chapeltown. His work is primarily portrait based and often deals with issues around identity. He has a long history of working with communities, teaching photography skills and facilitating participatory photography projects.
The exhibition will be shown across two venues in Chapeltown, Union105 and Inkwell Arts.
