Art Exhibition Inkwell

Kevin Hickson primarily describes himself as a painter although works in digital photography, graphic design and sculpture. His work explores an interest in the environment, scientific development and it’s impact on where and how we live. Some of his work could be described as landscapes and what he calls ‘innerscapes’ where he likes to play with micro and macro imagery.

Beth Smith is a well established artist who has returned to exhibiting her work again recently, creating beautiful works in ceramics and also paintings.

The preview evening starts at 6pm on November the 15th and here you will get the first opportunity to purchase any pieces on show. We hope you can join us for the evening.

Place and Memory

This summer, eight artists worked together discovering the city and themselves. Three Inkwell artists ( Amanda Burton, Lorna Johnstone and Donna Coleman) were chosen as part of the eight to work on this creative professional development project led by Emma Bolland, Judit Bodor and Tom Rodgers.

These artists, writers, and filmmakers have responded to the city of Leeds. Sharing personal and collective memories, they examine the hidden and overlooked corners of the city, finding beauty in unexpected places.

Exploring graveyards, wastelands, woodlands, and a hospital’s echoing corridors, they have created drawings, installations, photographs, video, poetry, sculpture, and sound. Read More

We love this time of year at Inkwell. Autumn brings with it a new term, new students, fresh faces and a rejuvenated team after the summer break. October is also the time of year the Love Arts Festival starts and we are really thrilled to be the organisers of some of the great line up of events happening.

The Love Arts Festival aims to get people thinking and talking about mental health and to reduce the related stigma that so many people experience. The arts are a fantastic vehicle to explore these complex issues as well as an important medium for participation and inclusion for people affected by mental health difficulties. This year they have drawn their inspiration from the power of storytelling to create understanding and harness creativity. Read More

Art Trail Opening Night

This year, Inkwell and the Chapel Allerton Festival have brought us a new feature to the annual festivities. The Art Trail has been an exciting collaboration with the festival organisers, Inkwell volunteers and staff.

There will be 40 artists exhibiting work in 16 venues in and around Chapel Allerton and we are very proud that many of the exhibitors are Inkwell Artists including our students, volunteers and tutors. Details of all the artists exhibiting can be found on the festival website here

The opening night will take place on Tuesday 27th August when the Trail officially opens. The evening will be a joyous celebration, including events happening at each venue plus musicians and entertainers on the streets. Arts and Minds with the help of local children and residents painted 150 gnomes at Inkwell last weekend that will also add to the quirky festival vibe.

Inkwell will be hosting our own celebration for artists exhibiting in our gallery. Drinks and wine will be served and the evening is expected to go onto at least 9pm. We hope on your way around the trail you will pop in and see us, enjoy the work on show and be part of what will be the first ever Arts trail in the festival’s history.
